Description
TinyTalk is an award-winning program that offers baby signing classes, enabling parents to communicate with their infants before they can speak. These classes incorporate British Sign Language (BSL) signs into interactive music sessions featuring popular nursery rhymes, action songs, and sensory activities. The curriculum covers various themes, such as bedtime and family, providing parents with the signs needed to engage in their baby's daily experiences.
Therese Markham is the TinyTalk teacher for Warrington, Newton-le-Willows and Lymm. She is mum to Hannah (20) and Max (16) and has been teaching TinyTalk classes for 19 years. Her journey with baby signing began when her daughter, Hannah, was six months old. By 15 months, Hannah had a signing vocabulary of over 50 signs, including 'milk,' 'more,' 'bird,' 'rain,' 'bath,' and 'daddy.' Thérèse also started signing with her son, Max, when he was just six days old, introducing signs like 'milk' and 'bed.' Max made his first sign, 'bed,' at eight months and, by 12 months, had learned several signs, such as 'daddy,' 'car,' 'stop,' and 'food.' Therese's favourite sign is "Please/Thank you," highlighting early manners. She loves baby signing because it offers a unique window into a child's mind, reducing frustration and building connections.
